Trip and Gear Essentials for Overland Newbies

As the channel grows, I get more DMs, email, and comments from some of the newcomers to the overland space on gear, rigs, and trips. Here are some tips I put together for those who are wanting to start going on longer trips.

A week to 2 weeks (or more) on the road presents different challenges than just the typical weekend out. Let’s dive into some gear and tips I recommend for those kinds of trips, and why.

And fellas, a lot of these upgrades will be approved by your spouse. I do put a lot of effort into making my wife comfortable. Women have different needs and don’t want to live like savages for weeks at a time, so build your truck accordingly!

  1. I have Vevor 38qt fridge/freezer combo. Paid 180.00 for it. That thing is great!! Runs like a champ. My little jackery 300 can run that fridge/freezer for 26hrs. I was very impressed on how good it is

  2. Great video, thank you very much. Some of the gear was well known, but still good to hear your Experience with it. Regarding clothing, even if expensive I‘m in love with ethical sourced merino.

  3. The deal i made with my wife was i would do all the cooking/cleaning when camping. 30 years, a Tacoma, 2 Tundras, and now a Sprinter 4×4, thats still the deal. We’ve been amazing places together, and she loves our trips. Great video!!!

  4. Man, they must have given you 30k of free kit so you can sell to the masses. Let’s go camping and take all the amenities of home with us. People are way too soft!
